VIGIL AT DUDLEY SQUARE: OUR COMMUNITY SAYS NO TO VIOLENCE!
ROXBURY, MA. A public vigil will be held tonight, March 5th at 5:30PM at the Dudley Square Bus Station in response to last week’s fatal shooting.
On February 28th at approximately 9:50PM, a young man was shot to death on a Dudley Station platform. Today’s vigil will send the message that the Dudley Square/Roxbury community will not tolerate acts of violence.
Organized by a coalition of Roxbury residents, city agencies, public safety officials, Madison Park Development Corporation and city of Boston’s Violence Intervention and Prevention program, the vigil is a forum for people to publicly voice commitment to keeping Roxbury a safe, healthy, and vibrant community.
Who: Roxbury residents, leaders and members of local community developments, public health organizations, public safety representatives, and youth based organizations.
What: A Call for Peace and a Call to Action. Roxbury residents and community partners will lead a vigil in Dudley Square in front of Citizens Bank, across from Dudley Station where the murder took place.
Speakers will offer words of advice, inspiration, and a call for peace. Information on trauma response and public safety issues will be available to the public. Following the vigil, organizers and participants will then meet at Madison Park Development Corporation (184 Dudley Street) to discuss further means of staying actively involved in this call of action.
When: The vigil will take place Tuesday March 5th at 5:30pm Visuals: Dozens of diverse community residents convening with signs, and handing out information urging passengers to carry this message of peace to their community.
