Wayne Shorter back after 5 years

Wayne Shorter of Weather Report will be returning to Boston to perform live the first time in 5 years.

Jazz found its way to me via the “Weather Report,” introduced to me by Ginger who lived in Charlotte at the time.  Up to that moment,  I had only known Motown music and  used my mom’s wooden kitchen chairs to beat out riffs from The Supremes 45s to kill time and have fun with my sisters singing like Diana Ross. I ruined those chairs and splintered them. That’s so uncoool. Don’t try that at home anymore!

That was some time ago, but, I  have it right here:  Wayne Shorter and Weather Report, the Heavy Weather CD and the liner notes.

seen live last ( with Ginger and her bf) — Weather Report with Jaco Pastorius in Greensboro, North Carolina.

About WEATHER REPORT – HEAVY WEATHER CD (published 1977).
It features the tracks: Birdland, A Remark you Made, Teen Town, Rumba Mama, Palladium, The Juggler, and Havona.

It’s amazing music with Wayne Shorter on sophrano and tenor saxophone, Zawinul on all kinds of analog synths, Acuma and Badrena on percussion,  and the late GREAT Jaco Pastorius genius on Bass.

The Heavy Weather album was game changer in the music business. It’s cross-over appeal is legendary. I think it pulled in people who were in R&B land, and probably changed their flow a bit, like it did mine.
