This 20 plus year tradition is a victim of its own success for all the right reasons. The action begins weeks before parade and festival day when organizers ask the communities of Jamaica Plain and Dudley Commons to start making creative to showcase. Donations help defray the cost of labor and material.
There is corporate and community support behind this, because some parts in this production, like the main concert stage, will cost a small fortune to have there.
The entire Pre-K to Adult diaspora pitches into this creative collective. Their artwork become part of the parade or will be installed at festival park.
The parade first populates the festival exhibition area with people who were in it,
Then from mid-afternoon to dusk, people from all around come streaming on festival ground by the thousands to buy food and goods, explore performing artists and enjoy the fun, family, entertainment and networking atmosphere.
