Black writers featured in Williamstown Theatre Festival


Outside on Main: Celebrating the Black Radical Imagination: Nine Plays. It is pretty cool to have as many Black made play scripts headline an old fashioned New England town’s summer festival week of outdoor stage plays.

media’s review. The plays are over. Unfortunately, it was rained the week and weekend. Attendees showed up. No Blacks were seen in audience said the New York Times. Tickets apparently sold well. Performances did go on. But it rained on these outdoor plays so you can imagine how it was. A New York Times review is here.

A live theatrical series happens each year in Williamstown, Massachusetts and this one features bold Black playwrights and their creations. The nine solo plays that comprise Celebrating the Black Radical Imagination: Nine Solo Plays are Williamstown Theatre Festival commissions, supported by WTF’s Andrew Martin-Weber New Play and Musical Commissioning Program. They will be playing thru July 25th 2021 at the Front Lawn of the ’62 Center for Theater and Dance.
