A Boston Lyric Opera show for date night

Multiple award-winning theater director Dawn M. Simmons takes on her first opera with Boston Lyric Opera’s new production titled LA CENERENTOLA/CINDERELLA.
When: Nov. 8-12, 2023
Where: Emerson Cutler Majestic Theatre.
Simmons’s production brings the well-known story to Boston, where Angelina is a sweet but put-upon young woman who lives with her ungrateful family including two wicked stepsistahs.
The prince, Don Ramiro, hosts a Boston Brahmin-style ball. Familiar landmarks abound. Gioachino Rossini’s opera version, with libretto by Jacopo Ferretti, dispenses with the Disney-esque fairy dust, but retains magic in its lovely, athletic and memorable music.
