ALL MONTH ON THE BIG SCREEN
May at Alamo Drafthouse is about celebrating our favorite filmmakers, the world’s favorite actress, and your favorite person in the world–Mom.
We begin with Meryl Mania: A Showcase of the Immortal Ms. Streep, a celebration of one of the most versatile performers in film history in honor of THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2, in theaters May 1.
This lineup spans sweeping romance, sharp comedy, and bold character work, including our MAMMA MIA! Movie Party, the emotional classic THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY, the meta Hollywood spiral of ADAPTATION, and the pitch-black comedy of DEATH BECOMES HER, which also closes out the month as an interactive Movie Party.
Plus, when you catch a Meryl movie on Mother’s Day weekend, enjoy a limited-time menu of movie mom-themed cocktails, mocktails, and desserts.
Do you like to watch? Reserve a seat for De Palma Summer, our retrospective of the master of suspense Brian De Palma’s classics on the big screen. Stylized tension, split-diopters, and operatic violence are a recipe for the coolest summer on record, and we kick things off with two De Palma favorites: CARRIE and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE. The tension ratchets up while your food gets delivered right to your seat.
Also returning to the big screen is SORRY TO BOTHER YOU, Boots Riley’s surreal, sharp-edged satire of capitalism and identity. Riley’s hotly anticipated new film I LOVE BOOSTERS, arrives May 22, making this a perfect time to revisit one of the most original voices in cinema today.
Across the month, our ongoing repertory series continue to dig deep into different corners of cinema.
Terror Tuesday delivers late-night horror screenings like HELLO MARY LOU: PROM NIGHT II, spotlighting cult and genre horror designed for communal scares.
Weird Wednesday showcases offbeat, unpredictable cinema like BY DESIGN, starring Juliette Lewis.
Sad Girl Cinema Club explores emotionally resonant and introspective storytelling, with Greta Gerwig’s FRANCES HA leading this month’s selection.
Queer Film Theory 101 serves up the 1969 Japanese cult classic, FUNERAL PARADE OF ROSES, an experimental retelling of the tragedy of Oedipus.
And AGFADrome Mystery Voyage offers a surprise screening from the American Genre Film Archive. You don’t know what the movie will be until it rolls, but we can guarantee it’ll be something memorable that’s rarely screened in theaters.
And when watching a movie isn’t enough, we’ve got Movie Parties that let you celebrate your favorites with a theater full of fellow fanatics. These are not passive viewings. Each Movie Party features a live host, interactive props, and themed keepsakes.
This month, the MAMMA MIA! Movie Party becomes a full ABBA-fueled celebration complete with a Dancing Queen sash and interactive dolphin coaster craft. Meanwhile, Robert Zemeckis’ campy DEATH BECOMES HER Movie Party serves up a frenemies bracelet for you and your bestie, and a light-up wand to create your own special effects in the theater.
Plus, for the 25th anniversary of “the greatest fairy tale never told,” we’re throwing a SHREK Movie Party complete with ogre ears and an exclusive bath bomb. We’ll save you a spot in the swamp.
They say you can’t have it all, but if you want to see it all, we make it remarkably easy. Sign up for Alamo Season Pass and catch everything on tap in May for one low monthly price.
